Kat Roberts, MA, B.ED, MACP, CCC Canadian Clinical Counsellor
I value my connections and relationships with the people that I work with. I believe that
everyone has strengths and resources to draw from, but know that at times we are all faced with
situations that are unsettling and uncomfortable. I am committed to helping clients develop
awareness, knowledge and skills in order to feel better.
My theoretical approach is eclectic and person centred. I respect and value the unique
perspectives and backgrounds of clients that I am connected to. I work with children, youth and
adults to support well being through attention to physical, social and emotional variables that
I have a lifelong interest in human relationships and cultural dynamics. I completed a MA
degree in Anthropology through the University of Victoria and I worked collaboratively on
projects to research and document cultural heritage. I volunteered and worked with vulnerable
youth and decided to pursue a B.Ed degree through the University of British Columbia in order
to open up additional ways of working and travelling. Upon completion, I moved to a rural
community in the Yukon Territory where I taught for several years before moving into
Whitehorse. I have specialized as a school counsellor for close to 20 years and I have
extensive experience assessing, planning and implementing strategies to help children,
teachers and families understand variables related to mental health, development, relationships
and learning. As part of my ongoing professional development I completed a MA degree in
counselling psychology through Yorkville University with an internship in adult mental health.
My philosophy has been influenced by culturally informed, cognitive behavioural, positive
psychology, solution focused and trauma informed practice. I work with children, youth and
adults to support well being through attention to psychological, physical, social and emotional
variables that influence well being.
I love hanging out with my husband and kids, kicking back with extended family and friends,
biking trails with my noisy dogs, creating, exploring wilderness and travelling both close to home
and to far away lands.
