Our Story
Northern Focus Counselling was built around a simple belief: people in the North deserve timely, high-quality mental health care—without long waits, unnecessary barriers, or having to leave their community to get support.
We started Northern Focus Counselling to meet the realities of life in the Yukon: remote geography, small communities, layered stressors, and a strong need for care that’s both clinically solid and culturally respectful. Over time, we’ve grown into a team of counsellors and psychologists who support children, youth, adults, couples, and families—virtually, in Whitehorse, and through community-based outreach across the territory.
What we believe
We believe counselling should be:
Accessible — simple to start, easy to continue
Responsive — support when someone is ready, not months later
Respectful — grounded in humility, consent, and cultural awareness
Practical — focused on real life changes, not just “talking about it”
Clinically strong — evidence-informed, ethical, and well-supported
What make us Different
A large, connected clinical team
Because we have a diverse team, clients have options—different styles, specialties, and schedules—so we can match people thoughtfully and adjust if needs change.
Low wait times / fast access
We work hard to keep access moving. In many cases, clients can connect with a clinician within about a week.
Community-based work matters to us
We partner with communities, schools, and local organizations to reduce barriers and bring care closer to where people live.
Continuity and choice
Clients can reconnect with a previous counsellor, or request a new match if they want a different fit. That flexibility supports autonomy and helps people stay engaged.
